Prince Albert School

PE Curriculum

At Prince Albert School, we believe that all children should be entitled to a balanced and broad Physical Education curriculum in which they are given help to realise their full potential in all aspects of physical activity.

Physical Education plays a vital role in child development. The focus for learning is upon the child and their continuing development of physical competence. The curriculum at Prince Albert is designed to enable all children to participate in a wide range of activities in many varied environments thus enabling them to enhance their knowledge, understanding and ability to apply physical skills.

Furthermore, the children will be encouraged to work safely and independently whilst learning to understand and appreciate the longer term benefits of regular physical activity on the body. This in turn will enable the child to continue to make informed decisions regarding adopting and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle after school.

Physical development in the foundation stage is about improving skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. KS1 children learn through aspects of dance, gym and games while KS2 children learn also through outdoor adventure activities, net and wall games, striking and fielding games, invasion games and athletics.

Additionally we advocate both the effective use of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities through clubs before, during and after school. Good practice enables children to appreciate their own and others' achievements but most importantly enjoy their own experiences making a significant contribution to the child's emotional, intellectual and personal development whilst in particular enhancing self-esteem.

Clubs run regularly after school. These change on a termly basis and include a variety of choices from cricket and football to dance, climbing and ICT. These are delivered by school staff and also qualified coaches from different fields of sports.
